What is BYOB?
This grass-roots environmental movement was created to get people excited about one of the most important aspects of waste reduction: reuse. Reusing items like shopping bags and beverage containers not only reduces back-end waste (the stuff that ends up in landfills and incinerators, with particles inevitably seeping into the air, groundwater, and oceans) but front-end waste as well (the waste of natural resources, manufacturing pollution, and carbon footprint generated to get the item to the consumer).
The primary mission of the movement is to get people out of the disposable mindset and make reuse normative. We aim to accomplish this through word of mouth, fliers, bumper stickers, and uniting with local businesses. Local businesses who join the BYOB movement may request plaques from us. These plaques will alert customers to the fact that the business accepts reusable mugs, bags, or other items.
